HCE at CVUU

On Sunday, April 23rd, the Hardwick Chamber Ensemble will perform a concert of music by Ludwig van Beethoven, Darius Milhaud, Cesar Franck, and John Winsor at Coastal Virginia Unitarian Universalists in Virginia Beach. The program will include John's "Caribbean Sunset."

Works by Jeraldine Herbison, Anne Neikirk, Alex Shapira, William Toutant, and John Winsor were performed on a NACUSA/Mid-Atlantic concert at Coastal Virginia Unitarian Universalists in Virginia Beach. The program included John's "Dolphins" and "Serenade for Brass Quintet."

Campbell University

A concert of music by living American composers was performed at Campbell University on October 21, 2021. John's "Caribbean Sunset" and "Trio" were performed by members of the Hardwick Chamber ensemble (John Winsor, clarinet; Natalia Goodloe, violin; Dionne Smith, cello; Jeanette Winsor, piano).

Scherzo Music Club

An all-Winsor concert was performed at Scherzo music club in November, 2019.

MTNA/VMTA Commission

John's "Caribbean Sunset" (2012) won the 2019 MTNA/VMTA Commissioned Composer Competition. This is John's sixth time winning that award. The commissioned piece will be performed at the 2019 annual VMTA conference this fall.

NYC Performance

On Sunday, January 13, 2019, John's Chamber Symphony (1995; rev. 2009) for woodwind quintet, piano, and strings was performed on a North/South Consonance concert at Christ & St. Stephen's Church in New York. The 1995 version was performed and broadcast by members of the Cologne Radio Symphony. This will be a world premiere of the newer version.

TMTF Concert

On Sunday, September 2, 2018, John's The Phoenix for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano was performed for the Tidewater Music Teachers Forum at Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Norfolk, Virginia. Performers will be Hardwick Chamber Ensemble members John Winsor, clarinet; Natalia Goodloe, violin; Dionne Smith, cello; and Jeanette Winsor, piano.

2017 VMTA Conference

On Saturday, October 28, 2017, John's The Phoenix for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano was performed at the annual VMTA conference at George Mason University. Performers were Hardwick Chamber Ensemble members John Winsor, clarinet; Natalia Goodloe, violin; Dionne Smith, cello; and Jeanette Winsor, piano. This was John's fifth MTNA/VMTA commission, making him the second most awarded MTNA/VMTA composer in Virginia history.

Francis Land House

On Wednesday, April 27, 2016, John's Trio for clarinet, cello, and piano was performed at the historic Francis Land House. Performers were Hardwick Chamber Ensemble members John Winsor, clarinet; Dionne Smith, cello; and Jeanette Winsor, piano.

Tidewater Community College

On Thursday, October 29, 2015, John's Trio for clarinet, violin, and piano was performed on a TCC faculty concert. Performers were Hardwick Chamber Ensemble members John Winsor, clarinet; Natalia Kuznetsova, violin; and Jeanette Winsor, piano.

Hampton University

On Sunday, September 13, 2015, John's Trio for clarinet, violin, and piano received its world premiere on a NACUSA/Mid-Atlantic concert at Hampton University. It was performed by Hardwick Chamber Ensemble members John Winsor, clarinet; Natalia Kuznetsova, violin; and Jeanette Winsor, piano.

Stafford County

On Saturday, November 1st, 2014 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Stafford County celebrated its 350th anniversary with a "Trail to Freedom" tour. Included on the tour was a short film about the Civil War entitled "The Spy Within." John wrote the musical score for this film, which is now in preparation for theatrical release.

New York City

On Sunday, February 16th, 2014 at 3:00 PM, North/South Consonance performed a concert of music by living composers. The program included the world premiere of John's The Faerie Queen for woodwind quintet and string quintet.

Chowan University

On Sunday, January 26th, 2014 at 3:30 PM, NACUSA/Mid-Atlantic performed a concert of music by its members. The program included the world premieres of John's The Faerie Queen and Hummingbirds - both for woodwind quintet and piano. The concert also included music by Walter Ross, Jeraldine Herbison, Harvey Stokes, and James Guthrie.

TCC Norfolk

On Monday, November 4th, 2013 at 12:00 PM, the Hardwick Chamber Ensemble performed music by Igor Stravinsky, Ludwig van Beethoven, and John Winsor. Performers were Natalia Kuznetsova, violin; Dionne Wright Smith, cello; John Winsor, clarinet; and Jeanette Winsor, piano.

TCC Virginia Beach

On Friday, November 22nd, 2013 at 12:00 PM, the Hardwick Chamber Ensemble performed music by Igor Stravinsky, Ludwig van Beethoven, and John Winsor. Performers were Natalia Kuznetsova, violin; Dionne Wright Smith, cello; John Winsor, clarinet; and Jeanette Winsor, piano.

Francis Land House

On Wednesday, April 24th, at 2:30 & 3:30 PM, the Hardwick Chamber Ensemble performed at the historic Francis Land House, 3131 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, Virginia. Music included the following works:

  • Felix Mendelssohn: “Scherzo” from Trio in D Minor, Op. 49 for violin, cello, and piano.
  • Felix Mendelssohn: Concertpiece No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 114 for clarinet, cello, and piano.
  • Piazolla: Winter for violin, cello, and piano.
  • Johannes Brahms: “Allegro amabile” from Sonata No. 2, Op. 100 for violin and piano.
  • Claude Debussy: Premiere Rhapsody for clarinet and piano.
  • John Winsor: Caribbean Sunset for violin, clarinet, cello, and piano.

Performers were Natalia Kuznetsova, violin; Dionne Wright, cello; John Winsor, clarinet; and Jeanette Winsor, piano.

The Francis Land House, located at 3131 Virginia Beach Boulevard, is included in the Princess Anne Garden Tour. Listeners may either sit down while we play or wander freely through the house and grounds. Admission to the house is $2.50 for adults and $1.00 for students aged 6 to 18. The block ticket from the Garden Tour may also be used.

TCC Martin Building

On Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013 at 12:00 PM, the Hardwick Chamber Ensemble presented a program that included music by Felix Mendelssohn, Astor Piazolla, Johannes Brahms, Claude Debussy, and John Winsor's "Caribbean Sunset." Prince of Peace Lutheran Church

On Sunday, April 7th, 2013 at 6:00 PM, the Hardwick Chamber Ensemble presented a program that included music by Felix Mendelssohn, Astor Piazolla, Johannes Brahms, Claude Debussy, and John Winsor's "Caribbean Sunset." Performers were Natalia Kuznetsova, violin; Dionne Wright, cello; John Winsor, clarinet; and Jeanette Winsor, piano.

TCC Roper Center

On Thursday, January 17th, 2012 at 12:00 PM, the HCE performed a concert at the TCC Roper Center, Room 4236. Works included Allegro amabile from Brahms's Sonata No. 2 for Violin and Piano, Op. 100, Claude Debussy's Premiere Rhapsody for clarinet and piano, the scherzo from Mendelssohn's Trio for Violin, Cello and Piano, Op. 49, "Winter" from Astor Piazolla's Trio for Violin, Cello and Piano, Mendelssohn's Concertpiece No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 114 for clarinet, cello, and piano, and John Winsor's "Caribbean Sunset" for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano. Performers included Natalia Kuznetsova, violin; Dionne Wright, cello; John Winsor, clarinet; and Jeanette Winsor, piano.

Chowan University

The Hardwick Chamber Ensemble participated in a NACUSA/Mid-Atlantic Concert at Daniel Recital Hall, Chowan University, One University Place, Murfreesboro, North Carolina, on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 3:30pm. The concert was a tribute to the late Robert Ian Winstin, who was the NACUSA/Mid-Atlantic Vice President. Works included music by Winstin as well as works by Harvey Stokes, James Guthrie, and John Winsor. It included John's Quartet for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano, which won the 2012 MTNA/VMTA Commissioned Composer Competition. Hardwick Chamber Ensemble Performers were John Winsor, clarinet; Natalia Kuznetsova, violin; Dionne Wright, cello; and Jeanette Winsor, piano.

Shenandoah University

On Saturday, November 10, 2012, at 4:15pm, at Shenandoah University, 1460 University Drive, Winchester, Virginia, members of the Hardwick Chamber Ensemble performed John's "Caribbean Sunset" for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano at the annual VMTA conference. The work was jointly commissioned by the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and the Virginia Music Teachers Association (VMTA). Performers included John Winsor, clarinet; Natalia Kuznetsova, violin; Dionne Wright, cello; and Jeanette Winsor, piano.

Unitarian Church of Norfolk

On Sunday, March 18th, 2012 at 4:00 PM, the HCE performed an all-Winsor concert celebrating John's 60th birthday. Music included Four for Three, The Norwegian Lady, Final Portraits, and the Trio for clarinet, cello, and piano. Performers included Natalia Kuznetsova, violin; Dionne Wright, cello; John Winsor, clarinet; Marlene Morvaji Ford, horn; and Jeanette Winsor, piano.

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church

On Sunday, April 15th, 2012 at 6:00 PM, the Hardwick Chamber Ensemble performed a concert of music by Beethoven and John Winsor at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

Francis Land House
